Colruyt Group deploys robots at Newpharma

Colruyt Group will equip Newpharma‘s new distribution centre in Liège with high-tech robotics applications. In doing so, the group unites the specialisations of two subsidiaries.

Towards one large logistics centre

To centralise its growing activities, Newpharma started building a new distribution centre in Liège two years ago. The logistics centre is 20,000 sq m in size and will eventually be expanded to 50,000 sq m. It will replace the current sites in Wandre and Tongeren, explains COO Pierre De Lit.

The new warehouse is equipped with modern robotics technology from another Colruyt subsidiary, Scallog. Smart Technics, which is also part of Colruyt Group, was responsible for the integration. The group intends to optimise stock management, order processing, order picking, packaging and ergonomics for the employees, explained Jeroen Theys, general manager of Smart Technics.

Newpharma will gradually start using the new facilities this autumn. The expansion of the distribution centre is planned for 2022.
