How did you get into this line of work?
“I did not go about my studies or launching my career thinking I would end up in commercial construction. … In college, I worked my way through about six internships trying out government, lab work, nonprofit work, publishing work. I learned a ton doing each thing, but also found that my skillset where I landed the best was helping disseminate those concepts to larger audiences.”

“Probably like most people leading businesses, my path was not a straight line. I started my career as an attorney… I applied to a blind ad for an attorney and came here when the company was about 20 people. The rest is history … My path to CEO was not anything that I ever intended. But it actually felt relatively natural because of the fact that I always had a seat at the table as we were deciding where we wanted to go and how we wanted to get there as a company.”

“I worked my way through college as a carpenter, so that’s how I started in this arena in general. My buddy Fred owned a single-family home construction business … affordable homes in rural Iowa, which is where I grew up. … But I also tried to sell real estate when interest rates were 17% in the mid- ’80s. And I worked for a nonprofit making home improvement loans to poor families in south Minneapolis. And that was a great experience. … And then I came to Aeon when it was really, really small, so I’ve been able to grow with the organization. So it’s been a great journey.”
— Alan Arthur, CEO of Aeon, June 2021
