Illinois medical supply manufacturer and distributor Medline Industries, Inc. plans to build what it says will be the largest solar project in Massachusetts, on top of its Uxbridge distribution facility, the company announced on Tuesday.
The 6.7-megawatt installation, which will be built in conjunction with EnterSolar of New York City, is expected to generate 8 million kilowatt hours of energy annually when it is completed, according to Medline.
The facility, itself 800,000 square feet, will be home to 16,000 solar panels.
A Fortune 500 company, Medline manufactures a variety of medical products at its facilities across North America, including the Curad line of bandages, Ave-branded scrubs, wheelchairs and other mobility devices, adult diapers, and therapeutic footwear.
The Uxbridge solar project is part of Medline’s larger commitment to environmental care, including the goal to have 94% of its distribution center space LEED-certified, investments in energy efficient vehicles and a division devoted to reprocessing medical devices.
