After years of delays it was all ‘go’ this morning from Cape Canaveral. Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft successfully lifted off just before 11 am atop an Atlas V rocket headed to the International Space Station with two astronauts tucked inside.

After docking Thursday, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams will spend a little over a week at the ISS performing a variety of tests on Starliner to certify it to carry humans on future missions. Starliner will join SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule which is already ferrying astronauts to the orbiting lab.

Wilmore and Williams and Starliner will then head back to earth landing by parachute in the western United States.
