Jerry Akers, who owns 36 ‘Great Clips’ franchises, told FNC’s Harris Faulkner on Monday that he will “lose employees” because of the Biden administrations new mandate that businesses with more than 100 employees must require a COVID-19 vaccine or weekly testing for all employees.
JERRY AKERS: We’ve had to pay for so many things — the enhanced cleaning of the stores, masks, and the list goes on and on. And now potentially we’ve got to pay for these tests [because] half of our staff is probably not interested in vaccines. The costs get exorbitant and small businesses has to pass that along to their customers, so the American public will end up paying for that…
Where does the 100 employee number come from? That’s what I want to know…
100 isn’t a large number of employees. If you own two fast-casual restaurants, you may have 100 employees. For us, we know all our employees. They’re in small groups, 5-8 people in each salon…
We know the stresses and struggles they’ve got. And adding this on right now with all the fear and uncertainty going on in the workplace is unconscionable.
We will lose employees. We are already about 70 employees down from where we should be.
It’s a struggle to get back into the workforce right now, and this is going to add one more layer.
