PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of Philadelphia’s celebrity chefs has quietly opened his fourth restaurant — his second in Bala Cynwyd.
The newest Nick Elmi restaurant is Lark, named after a local bird.
“They are a brown bird with kind of like a white breast with black trim,” said the 2014 “Top Chef” winner.
Lark, located at 611 Righters Ferry Road, is at the Pencoyd Iron Works — the base of the Pencoyd Bridge that connects Bala Cynwyd with Manayunk. The complex includes a hotel, a gym and Elmi’s other Bala Cynwyd restaurant, The Landing Kitchen, on the first floor.
Lark is in another part of the building, on the seventh floor. “The rooftop terrace that we have overlooks the river and at night you get pretty beautiful views of Manayunk. During the day, down at The Landing, you’re sitting right at the river.”
Lark’s cuisine is Mediterranean coastal.
“It gives me kind of a little bit of leeway to get out of being pigeonholed as a French chef and be able to do a little bit more of my Italian roots and some Spanish flair,” he said.

The menu features items like a hearty goat cheese gnocchi with broccoli pesto, sea urchin deviled eggs, mushroom ravioli, a roasted dorade (a type of fish), and budino, an Italian custard.
Elmi said they are working on happy hour offerings, but for right now, Lark is open for reservations Wednesday through Saturday.
