Pueblo School District 60 Celebrates Rising Graduation Rates

Pueblo School District 60 Reports Significant Gains in Graduation Rates and Reduction in Dropout Rates

PUEBLO, Colo. — Pueblo School District 60 (D60) has reported notable improvements in its educational outcomes for the 2024-25 school year, highlighting a 4.7% increase in its four-year graduation rate, which now stands at 88.9%. Concurrently, the district has successfully decreased its dropout rate by 1.2%, bringing it down to 1.4%.

These achievements, confirmed by data from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), signify a positive trend for the district, which serves a diverse student population. District officials attribute these improvements to a well-coordinated, multi-faceted strategy aimed at enhancing student engagement and providing tailored support for individuals.

Dr. Kimzey, Superintendent of D60, emphasized the dedication of the staff and the importance of community partnership in this progress. He stated, “Our progress is the result of the systemic, intentional work of our staff, in partnership with our families and community, from Pre-K through 12th grade. These efforts include our holistic approach to building stronger, culturally responsive connections with students and families, providing proactive intervention and instructional supports and leadership, and creating more relevant pathways to graduation.”

The district’s strategic plan includes several key components that have played a critical role in achieving these results:

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support: This framework is designed to identify and address student needs promptly, ensuring that all learners receive appropriate interventions.

Culturally Responsive Student and Family Engagement: By prioritizing inclusivity, D60 seeks to strengthen connections with families and enhance students’ educational experiences.

Enhanced Classroom Observations and Coaching: Increased oversight allows for better teaching practices, enabling educators to adapt to diverse learning needs effectively.

Growth in Career and Technical Education (CTE) Pathways: Expanding vocational training opportunities helps prepare students for employment post-graduation, making education more relevant and practical.

Expansion of Online Educational Offerings: The district has broadened its digital resources, providing secondary students with flexible learning options that accommodate various learning styles.

District leaders have expressed pride in these advancements, noting that sustaining this momentum will be vital for future success. Continued investment in these strategies is fundamental to keeping students engaged and enrolled, ultimately fostering a stronger educational environment in Pueblo.

As the district moves forward, it aims to build on this success, ensuring that every student has the chance to thrive academically and prepare for a successful transition into adulthood. The upward trajectory of graduation rates and the decreasing dropout rates of D60 underscore the significant impacts of targeted educational initiatives and community collaboration.
